What is NIOS?

The National Institute of Open Schooling / NIOS, previously known as National Open School, is an autonomous National Level Board of Education in India established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Government of India in the year 1989.
The main goal of the NIOS board is to offer primary, secondary, life skill, and vocational education to a varied and diverse group of students and learners, which may include specially or differently abled students.
The NIOS board is recognized by the Human Resource Development Department of the Government of India and has a standard and value equivalent to the value of courses of study from other state or national-level recognized boards of school education, such as CISCE and CBSE.
