The therapists at Butterfly Learnings use various forms of exercises, methods, and techniques to help a child overcome behavioral problems due to autism.
There is no specific treatment or permanent cure for autism. Yet, our interventions and therapies can help manage your child’s symptoms and overcome his or her limitations to lead an improved quality of life.
The techniques and methods used for autism treatment include the following:
1. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy
Some types of behavioral therapies, such as ABA therapy, are performed to encourage positive or good behaviors in children and prevent negative or harmful behaviors in autistic children.
The child is given an appropriate reward for every good behavior displayed to encourage repeating the behavior consistently in the future. Negative behavior by the child is discouraged to help in the gradual reduction and stoppage of such behavior.
2. Developmental Therapies
The therapists at Butterfly Learnings offer the following types of therapy programs to enable an improvement in the behavioral and developmental aspects of an autistic child:
- Speech therapy: Our speech therapist will help manage your child’s speech, language, and communication problems.
- Occupational therapy: The occupational therapist will help your child perform basic life skills easily. This will help the child do simple daily tasks, such as bathing, getting dressed, and self-feeding easily.
- Physical therapy: We will teach your child appropriate physical therapy exercises to improve the child’s motor skills.
3. Play Therapy
Our therapists may use certain play techniques to improve your child’s social and emotional skills. The different techniques used may include:
- Integrated play groups: The therapist arranges a play date for autistic and non-autistic children. The children are encouraged to play together and the therapist will observe how your autistic child will participate, understand, and adjust with his or her peers.
- Joint attention symbolic play engagement and regulation (JASPER): Our therapist will encourage your child to focus on a specific game or toy along with another child.
- Floortime play therapy: In this method, the therapist gets down on the floor to play with the child.
4. Psychological Therapy
Some types of psychological therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, are recommended for autistic children with mental health issues like anxiety and depression.
5. Social Skills Development
Our therapists will use child-friendly resources and methods to improve your child’s emotional bonds and social skills.
6. Complementary Therapies
We use some complementary therapies, such as art therapy, music therapy, and animal-assisted therapy such as horseback riding, to help improve the communication and learning skills of your child.
7. Educational Skills Development
The therapists will use certain engaging, fun methods and techniques to improve the learning ability and school performance of your child.
8. Medications
Our therapists may prescribe medicines to help relieve some symptoms associated with autism, such as anxiety, seizures, sleep disorders, attention problems, and hyperactivity.
