How Does it Work? / Pediatric Neurologist Treatment Process
Our medical specialists at Butterfly Learnings follow a simple step-by-step procedure to offer treatment to children. The procedure is as follows:
Initial Consultation Appointment and Child Assessment
During your initial consultation visit to our center, our pediatric neurologist or developmental pediatrician will assess your child thoroughly.
Our specialist will discuss your child’s problems and symptoms with the caregivers, family members, teachers, and pediatrician of the child to understand the condition better.
Diagnostic Assessments
The pediatric neurologist may suggest a few diagnostic and imaging tests after assessing the child’s physical and mental condition, symptoms, and medical history thoroughly to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. The various tests suggested may include the following:
- Blood Tests: Blood tests help detect underlying infections or electrolyte changes.
- Genetic Testing: It is a type of blood test that helps identify specific gene mutations related to neurological disorders.
- Electroencephalography/EEG: It is a non-invasive test done to record the electrical activity of the brain and diagnose epilepsy.
- Neuroimaging: Tests like computed tomography (CT) scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans may be recommended to visualize the structure of the brain and detect abnormalities such as infections, multiple sclerosis, stroke, brain tumors, and some types of genetic disorders.
- Lumbar Puncture or Spinal Tap:This test involves the insertion of a small needle into the lower back of the child to get a spinal fluid sample, which is a type of fluid surrounding the spinal cord and brain. It helps detect any infection or inflammation that may be present.
- Neuropsychological Testing: The test helps evaluate the behavior, academic performance, and cognitive function in a child to provide more details about the neurodevelopmental disorder present.
- Nerve Conduction Studies and Electromyography/EMG: The tests help evaluate the nerve and muscle function in a child, and also diagnose nerve injuries or neuromuscular disorders.
Making a Personalized Treatment Plan
Based on the child’s assessment and reports of the diagnostic assessments, our pediatric neurologist makes a personalized treatment plan for the child.
The treatment plan will include all the therapies that will be required for the treatment of the child, including pediatric neurologist services and other therapies like speech therapy, ABA therapy, occupational therapy, etc.
Starting the Treatment
The child will then start with his or her treatment at Butterfly Learnings Center in a safe and comfortable treatment environment.
Our team of therapists and specialists, including pediatric neurologists, will work in collaboration with one another to offer the best treatment for the child’s neurological disorder.
Regular Monitoring and Changes in the Treatment Plan
Our specialists will constantly monitor your child’s progress and response to interventions. Based on the child’s response, some changes may be made in the treatment plan of the child for better and quicker treatment results.
We share the child’s progress reports and altered treatment plans with the child’s parents using our online app.
